Elizabeth N Morgan is Associate Professor and Chair of the Department of Music, Theatre and Film at Saint Joseph's University. A historical musicologist and concert pianist, she holds a BM and MM in Piano Performance from The Juilliard School, and a DMA in Piano Performance alongside a PhD in Musicology from UCLA. She teaches courses in music history, piano performance, and chamber music.
Her research examines 19th-century musical practices through interdisciplinary lenses, with focus areas including:
- Keyboard and chamber music evolution
- Music's relationship to gender, war, and embodiment
- Cultural narratives in American and British contexts
- Performance as historical testimony
Morgan's publications consistently explore intersections of music with socio-political conflicts—particularly the Mexican-American and Civil Wars—analyzing how compositions reflect ideologies like Manifest Destiny and domestic wartime experiences. Her work demonstrates methodological innovation in linking musical analysis with gender studies and cultural trauma theory.
