Ellen Paterson is a Career Development Fellow in Early Modern History at Keble College, University of Oxford. Her research examines the intersection of politics and economics in seventeenth-century England, with a focus on anti-monopoly petitioning and the impact of state institutions on non-elite populations. She is the author of Bloodsuckers of the Commonwealth, which explores economic grievances and petitioning movements in early modern England.
Her current research investigates the effects of emerging economic institutions and state interventions on non-elite communities, including studies on James I's proposed Union with Scotland and early Stuart colonial ventures. She teaches courses such as British History IV, Disciplines of History, and special subjects like The Trials of the Tudor State.
