Ellen Huang is an Associate Professor and Associate Chair in the Humanities & Sciences division at ArtCenter College of Design. Her research explores the intersection of art, science, and materials, with a focus on design and material culture in China, emphasizing cross-cultural translation in global contexts.

Huang’s work bridges historical and contemporary perspectives on material practices, including ceramic traditions in China (e.g., Longquan and Jingdezhen porcelain), as well as textual and visual interplay in historical artifacts. She has curated significant exhibitions like Ink Worlds (2018) and Clouding (2021), and her teaching spans global material culture, design history, and cross-cultural analysis.
She has conducted teaching and research in Taipei, Beijing, and Shanghai, and previously held curatorial roles at the Cantor Arts Center at Stanford University and the Ackland Art Museum at the University of North Carolina. Her work has been supported by institutions such as the Berkeley Chancellor for Academic Diversity and the Korean National Museum.
