Robert J. Kett is an Associate Professor of Design Anthropology at ArtCenter College of Design and Curator-at-Large at the Palm Springs Art Museum. His research and curatorial work focus on the cultural life of architecture and design, particularly intersections of design/technology, countercultural practices, and non-Western design cultures.
- PhD in Cultural Anthropology, University of California, Irvine
His research spans topics like digital curation, science and technology studies, Latin American design, and countercultural materiality. Recent exhibitions include So Near, So Far (2025) and Prospects Beyond Futures (2020). His publications address themes such as reproductive power in design, Cold War land art, and radical pedagogies.
Supported by institutions like the Graham Foundation and Wenner-Gren Foundation, Kett’s work bridges anthropology, museum practice, and design theory. He has taught at UC Berkeley and California College of the Arts, and held roles at the Getty Research Institute, Max Planck Institute, and SFMOMA.
