Elizabeth Williams is a Professor of Human Nutrition at the University of Sheffield, holding the position of Deputy Director of Education for the School of Medicine and Population Health. She leads research in diet’s role in chronic disease prevention, healthy ageing, and male fertility. Her work integrates technology for dietary assessment and intervention. She co-leads the Healthy Lifespan Institute’s lifestyle intervention stream and is affiliated with the Institute for Sustainable Food.
Education: PhD in Nutrition from the University of Sheffield (mid-1990s), postdoctoral research at the MRC Dunn Nutrition Unit (Cambridge) and MRC Gambia Unit. Joined Sheffield in 2003 as a Lecturer, promoted to Professor in 2025.
Research interests include musculoskeletal health, digestive health, and the use of technology for dietary behavior change. She has conducted >20 years of nutrition intervention trials and collaborates on multidisciplinary projects. Current students focus on vitamin D in IBS, musculoskeletal health in South Asian women, post-colorectal adenoma dietary patterns, and protein supplementation for ageing populations.
Teaching roles include leading MSc modules in Nutritional Epidemiology and Physiology, and co-leading the Nutrition and Physical Activity program. She is an Association for Nutrition Registered Practitioner and serves on editorial boards and national committees.
