Dr. Elizabeth Roundhill is a Research Fellow at the School of Medicine, University of Leeds, Faculty of Medicine and Health, affiliated with the Leeds Institute of Medical Research at St James's and the Children’s Cancer Research Group. Her research focuses on improving outcomes for patients with Ewing sarcoma through the development of representative preclinical models and the identification of novel therapeutic targets and biomarkers.
Her research interests lie at the intersection of pediatric oncology and translational cancer research. She specializes in bone sarcomas, particularly Ewing sarcoma, with a strong emphasis on drug repurposing, targeted screening, and the discovery of circulating biomarkers. Her work integrates molecular and cellular approaches to model disease and evaluate novel therapeutics.
Dr. Roundhill is actively engaged in international collaborative research networks. She is a member of the EuroEwing Consortium (EEC), serving on the NEWTS and Circulating Biomarkers groups, and participates in the INTER-EWING1 Biological Studies Steering Group. She is also involved with Fight OsteoSarcoma Through European Research (FOSTER), the American Association of Cancer Research, the British Association of Cancer Research, and the International Society of Paediatric Cancer (SIOP). From 2018 to 2023, she contributed to the NCRI Sarcoma CSG and its Bone Sarcoma subgroup.
She received her BSc in Cell Biology from the University of Durham in 2005 and completed her PhD at the University of Leeds in 2009, focusing on multi-drug resistance in Ewing sarcoma. After a post-doctoral position in Leeds, she worked at the Children’s Cancer Institute in Sydney, Australia, before returning to Leeds in 2015 as an Early Career Research Fellow.
Dr. Roundhill supervises postgraduate research and welcomes applications from motivated candidates interested in pursuing PhD study in cancer biology and sarcoma research. She is involved in shaping research strategy through her roles in national and international consortia, contributing to biological study design and therapeutic development in pediatric bone cancers.
