Jason T. Yustein, M.D., Ph.D., is an Associate Professor in the Department of Pediatrics, Hematology-Oncology at Baylor College of Medicine. He also serves as Co-Associate Director of Education at the Dan L Duncan Comprehensive Cancer Center and Director of the Faris D. Virani Ewing Sarcoma Center at Texas Children's Cancer Center. His research focuses on the molecular mechanisms underlying pediatric sarcomas, particularly Ewing sarcoma and osteosarcoma, emphasizing metastasis, therapeutic resistance, and novel treatment strategies.
Dr. Yustein obtained a BA from the University of Virginia (1994), followed by an MD-PhD from Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine (2002). He completed fellowships and residencies in Pediatrics, Hematology-Oncology at Johns Hopkins University Hospital (2003–2008).
His research interests include investigating the molecular pathogenesis of pediatric sarcomas, targeting signaling pathways (e.g., Wnt/β-catenin, integrin-mediated signaling), and developing therapies such as CAR T-cell therapies and nanoparticle-based drug delivery systems. Recent work explores biomarkers for prognosis and therapeutic efficacy, including miRNA signatures and epigenetic regulators.
Key contributions include studies on tumor metastasis, CAR T-cell activity modulation, and preclinical models for sarcomas. His team collaborates on translational research to bridge laboratory findings to clinical applications in pediatric oncology.
