Elizabeth Dent

Elizabeth Dent is a Senior Lecturer in Psychology at the University of Sunderland, where she completed her BSc, MSc, and PhD in Psychological Research Methods. Her research focuses on gut-brain communication and the psychosocial impact of chronic gastrointestinal conditions like irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) and inflammatory bowel disease (IBD).

• Key teaching roles include modules on Brain and Behaviour, Developmental Psychology, and supervision of final-year dissertations
• Research areas: bidirectional gut-brain interactions, mental health associations with gastrointestinal disorders, emotion recognition, and coping mechanisms

Her recent publications examine qualitative experiences of gastrointestinal conditions and their psychosocial implications through the biopsychosocial lens. She serves as Programme Leader for Psychology with Integrated Foundation Year.
