Sonia K. Ramsy

Sonia K. Ramsy is a Clinical Professor of Pediatrics at the University of Southern California (USC), affiliated with the Children’s Hospital Los Angeles and the Department of Surgery. She also serves as the Vice Chair of Faculty Development. Her research focuses on probiotics, gut microbiome dynamics, and their roles in pediatric disorders such as irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), Crohn’s disease, and inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD). She leads NIH-funded studies investigating probiotic efficacy and gut microbiota modulation in children with IBS.

Her research interests extend to pediatric nephrology, including renal disorders, dialysis complications, and genetic factors in Crohn’s disease. Key areas include long-term outcomes in biliary atresia, microbiome analysis in IBD, and therapeutic advancements in ulcerative colitis. Dr. Ramsy has contributed to understanding opportunistic infections in immunocompromised patients and the efficacy of immunosuppressive regimens in nephrotic syndrome.

Her publications span 20+ years, with over 50 peer-reviewed articles in journals like J Pediatr, Am J Gastroenterol, and Nephrol Dial Transplant. Her work highlights interdisciplinary approaches, integrating microbiology, genetics, and clinical trials to address pediatric gastrointestinal and renal challenges.
