Elias Maritan

Elias Maritan is a Researcher at Harper Adams University, affiliated with the Global Institute for Agri-Tech Economics (GIATE) within the Harper Adams Business School. His work focuses on the economic, environmental, and social impacts of agricultural technologies. He collaborates with Prof. Karl Behrendt and Prof. James Lowenberg-DeBoer, and is part of projects funded by Innovate UK and the EU Horizon Europe programme.

Educated at Queen Mary, University of London (BSc Hons in Environmental Geography) and the University of Udine, Italy (MSc in Agricultural Sciences), Maritan's research applies multi-criteria linear programming to assess innovations like crop robots. His findings contributed to the BS 8646:2023 standard for autonomous agricultural machinery.

Current projects include the D4AgEcol initiative, which explores digital tools for agroecological transitions across Europe using the UN FAO's 10 elements of agroecology framework. This project evaluates stakeholder-driven digitalisation to support sustainable farming practices.

Maritan holds memberships in the Agricultural Economics Society and the International Society of Precision Agriculture, reflecting his expertise in data-driven agricultural solutions. His work bridges economic analysis with environmental sustainability, emphasizing technology adoption barriers and policy implications.
