Eileen Brantley, PhD, is an Associate Professor with dual appointments in Loma Linda University's School of Medicine (Pharmacology Division) and School of Pharmacy (Pharmaceutical and Administrative Sciences). She earned her PhD from Meharry Medical College (1999), MS from Ohio State University (1995), and BS from Oakwood University (1993).
Her research specializes in breast cancer therapeutics, focusing on:
- Overcoming endocrine therapy resistance via alpha-6 integrin targeting
- Mechanisms of aryl hydrocarbon receptor agonists in inducing redox-mediated DNA damage
- Cancer stem cell inhibition using natural compounds like dibenzyl trisulfide
- Addressing racial disparities in breast cancer outcomes
Recent publications (2019-2023) demonstrate consistent focus on triple-negative breast cancer, microRNA regulation of stemness, and novel therapeutic agents. Article keywords cluster around cancer stem cells, drug resistance mechanisms, natural product pharmacology, and health disparities.
She leads multiple grants including:
- NIH-funded 'Oxidative DNA Damage and CpG Mutagenesis' (2012-2015)
- 'Targeting alpha6-integrin to reverse Tamoxifen resistance' (2016-2018)
- 'AhR agonist analogs for refractory breast cancer' (2017-2020)
- LLU-funded PET imaging project for triple-negative breast cancer (2020-2022)
Mentors graduate/medical students through research courses (BCHM 697, PHRM 697) and directs projects on anticancer drug mechanisms. Collaborates with University of West Indies researchers and leads a cancer therapeutics lab investigating redox signaling pathways.
