Edward Zimbudzi

Edward Zimbudzi is a Senior Lecturer in the School of Nursing and Midwifery at Monash University. He holds concurrent roles as a Research Affiliate at Monash Health (since 2023) and Director of the Renal Society of Australasia (since 2020). His clinical and research expertise focuses on optimizing self-management interventions for patients with comorbid diabetes and chronic kidney disease, with a particular emphasis on culturally and linguistically diverse populations. He has led the development of the Diabetes and Kidney Service, a co-designed model of care that integrates patient, clinician, and advocacy group perspectives.

Edward completed his PhD in 2020 through Monash University’s Department of Epidemiology and Preventive Medicine, investigating how self-management strategies improve quality of life in patients with diabetes and kidney disease. His work has been recognized with multiple awards, including the Excellence in Research, Teaching, and Innovation award (2020) and the Annual Dialysis Nursing Scholarship (2017).

Research interests include patient activation, health equity, and the application of co-design principles in healthcare. He has supervised numerous PhD students and actively contributes to advancing nursing and midwifery research through peer-reviewed publications and collaborative projects. Notable collaborations include the NHMRC-funded ‘A new model of healthcare for co-morbid diabetes and chronic kidney disease’ (2017–2018).

Edward’s publications span topics such as haemodialysis outcomes, interdialytic weight management, and the impact of cultural diversity on healthcare experiences. He emphasizes translating research into clinical practice to enhance patient-centered care and reduce health disparities.
