معرفی
Edward Vital is an Associate Professor (Consultant) at the School of Medicine, University of Leeds. His research focuses on systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), with a particular emphasis on musculoskeletal and cutaneous manifestations, biomarker development, and translational immunology. He leads clinical trials such as TARGET-DLE (anti-TNF therapy for discoid lupus) and ROOTS (novel trial design for SLE evaluation). His work integrates clinical trials, B cell monitoring, and imaging to improve treatment outcomes.
Education:
- MB ChB (Medicine)
- MRCP (Member of the Royal College of Physicians)
- PhD
Research Interests: Dr. Vital’s research spans type I interferon regulation, B cell therapies, and outcome measures in autoimmune diseases. He explores biomarkers for disease stratification, such as B cell phenotypes and interferon signatures, and investigates mechanisms driving scarring in cutaneous lupus. His work bridges basic science (e.g., pDC biology) and clinical practice (e.g., ultrasound in lupus arthritis).
Collaborations & Funding: Active collaborations include Prof. Ian Bruce (Manchester), Prof. Michael Ehrenstein (UCL), and Prof. Liz Lightstone (Imperial College London). Major funders include the National Institute for Health Research (£1m), Medical Research Council (£5.1m), and industry partnerships (e.g., Roche, AstraZeneca).
Labs/Teams: Part of the Leeds Institute of Rheumatic and Musculoskeletal Medicine, focusing on immune mechanisms and clinical trial innovation. Supervises PhD/MSc students and coordinates multi-center trials.
