Edward Stredny, MD is the Donald E. Martin Career Development Professor in Anesthesia and Pain Medicine and holds the rank of Assistant Professor in the Department of Anesthesiology and Perioperative Medicine. His research focuses on redox biology in neural systems, particularly the roles of thiol oxidation and oxidative stress in normal brain function and neurotransmission.
His key research interests include understanding how physiological oxidative stress interacts with neural cell activities, the structural biology of proteins like SNAP-25, and redox mechanisms regulating synaptic transmission. Recent work highlights the significance of protein thiol oxidations in healthy neural function.
Dr. Stredny has contributed two peer-reviewed articles (2012, 2014) exploring thiol chemistry's role in neurotransmission modulation and neural cell activity. These studies have collectively received 24 citations (h-index 2).
He was among recipients of the 2024 Dean's Award for Excellence in Teaching, recognizing contributions to medical education.
