Edel Semple

Edel Semple is a Senior Lecturer in Shakespeare Studies at UCC, specializing in early modern drama and adaptations. She directs the MA in Medieval and Renaissance Literatures and received UCC's Teaching Excellence Award (2022) for innovative pedagogy.

Research explores:

• Shakespearean biofiction in film/theatre
• Gender representations in Renaissance drama
• Early modern transgression narratives

Recent publications analyze feminist reinterpretations of Shakespeare and the Water Poet's pamphlets. Her IRC-funded project 'Celebrating Shakespeare 400' included public performances of Pericles.
