Dr Jakub Boguszak is a Lecturer in Shakespeare and Early Modern Theatre at the University of Southampton. He is affiliated with the Centre for Medieval and Renaissance Culture (CMRC) and the Centre for Modern and Contemporary Writing (CMCW). His research focuses on casting practices in Shakespearean productions, early modern performance documents, Ben Jonson’s works, and the history of animation. He holds a PhD from the University of Oxford, with prior studies at Charles University, Prague, and has worked at Shakespeare’s Globe.

His current research explores modern casting practices in Shakespearean theatre and reconstitutes Ben Jonson’s plays using early modern actors’ parts. He teaches Elizabethan and Stuart drama, seventeenth-century texts on the human body, John Milton’s works, and modern British drama. He supervises three PhD students in English.
Dr Boguszak’s publications include The Self-Centred Art: Ben Jonson’s Parts in Performance (2021) and articles on performance studies, Shakespeare adaptations, and Renaissance theatrical practices.
