Edda Jansdottir Arneberg is a Doctoral Research Fellow at the University of Oslo, affiliated with the Department of Media and Communication within the Faculty of Humanities. Her research focuses on children and adolescents' experiences of belonging and identity in mediated realities, particularly through their media habits and use of platforms like YouTube and gaming. She holds a Master’s degree in research-oriented educational science from the University of Oslo, where her thesis explored identity construction through computer games.
Academic Background: Edda has taught music, social sciences, and philosophy, and has experience as a singer and vocal coach. Her current PhD project is a qualitative study examining youth aged 16–19, addressing themes such as media as symbolic identity markers, class differences, and the internet as an extension of reality.
Research Contributions: She co-authored a 2018 article in the Norsk sosiologisk tidsskrift on symbolic boundaries in gaming culture. She was a visiting scholar at the University of Amsterdam’s Department for Youth and Media Entertainment until December 2023, contributing to the See Me Be Me project on media representation.
