Emilie Owens

Emilie Owens is a Research Fellow at the Department of Media and Communication, University of Oslo. Her work focuses on children's media engagement, digital participation, and cultural studies. She holds an International Master of Arts from the University of Glasgow, Aarhus University, and the University of Wrocław (2021), and a Bachelor of Arts from Concordia University (2014). Owens has received the Erasmus Mundus Scholarship (2019) and contributed to projects like the Queer Games Library for youth. Her research employs practice theory and posthumanist frameworks to analyze TikTok's role in shaping youth agency. Recent publications include studies on digital literary criticism and 'brain rot' as a participatory genre among teenagers.
