Dylan Champagne is a Lecturer of Music Composition and Digital Audio Workstation at the Lionel Hampton School of Music, part of the College of Letters, Arts and Social Sciences at the University of Idaho. He is an active composer, performer, and audio engineer with a diverse creative portfolio spanning chamber music, electronic music, film scoring, and experimental sound design.
His educational background includes a Master of Music in Composition from the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama and a Bachelor of Music in Composition from the Lionel Hampton School of Music, University of Idaho, complemented by a certificate in Audio Engineering from the Conservatory of Recording Arts and Sciences.
Champagne's research and artistic practice focus on music spatialization, real-time audio processing, and interdisciplinary composition. His work often integrates live performance with electronic transformation, as seen in pieces like Brazen Bull and his live score for the silent film The Wind, where he used custom MAX/MSP patches to generate atmospheric textures. He is an advocate for experimental and immersive musical experiences.
His recent creative output includes the completion of the score and audio mix for the short film Wake, premiering at the 2024 Sun Valley Film Festival, and the release of the DUALITY CD. His master’s thesis combined scholarly research with original composition, exploring historical and contemporary practices in audio spatialization within acoustic concert music.
He is a member of the Immersion Composition Society and has had works performed by ensembles such as The Cory Band, The Berkeley Ensemble, The Torch Quartet, and duality.
While no formal advisees or scientific awards are listed, his role as a lecturer and active artist suggests engagement in student mentorship and creative research. He maintains a professional presence through his personal website and ongoing public performances and premieres.
