Dragos Simandan is a Professor in the Department of Geography and Tourism Studies at Brock University, Canada, within the Faculty of Social Sciences. His academic journey includes a PhD from the University of Bristol (UK) and prior roles such as Graduate Program Director (2012–2015) and Chair of SSHRC Insight Grant Adjudication (2013–2016). He holds expertise in Economic Geography, Critical Human Geographies, and the intersections of health, well-being, and biomedical research.
Education: PhD in Geography (2004, University of Bristol, UK); BSc in Geography (1996–2000, Babeș-Bolyai University, Romania).
Research focuses on spatial dislocations, migration, social capital, and the politics of knowledge. Key themes include the spatial dimensions of wisdom, pandemic policy analysis, and critical urban theory. Over 150 publications include works on actor-network theory, situated knowledge, and the geographies of health inequalities.
Advising includes mentoring 8 graduate students (e.g., Senanu Kutor, Mert Coskan). Research has been funded by SSHRC grants, with recent collaborations exploring pandemic management and authoritarianism during the 2020s.
Labs/Teams: Engaged in interdisciplinary research on migration, urban politics, and public health, often collaborating with global scholars in futures studies and strategic management.
