Dragos Calma is an Associate Professor in the School of Philosophy at University College Dublin. His research focuses on medieval philosophy, particularly the history of Neoplatonism, metaphysics, and theories of soul in the 13th–16th centuries. He holds a PhD from Paris-Sorbonne and has held fellowships at institutions like the Warburg Institute and University of Cambridge. His ERC Consolidator Grant (NeoplAT, 2018–2023) investigates Neoplatonism’s impact on Abrahamic traditions.
Calma’s education includes studies at Babeș-Bolyai University (Cluj-Napoca), École Normale Supérieure (Paris), and University of Sorbonne. He has organized major conferences on medieval thought and edited volumes on Proclus’ influence. His awards include the Friedrich Wilhelm Bessel Research Award and the Ad Astra Excellence Prize.
His research integrates textual analysis, manuscript studies, and interdisciplinary methods. Key contributions include editing previously unknown philosophical texts and exploring the reception of Proclus’ Elements of Theology in Latin, Arabic, and Jewish contexts.
