Donna Shestowsky is Professor of Law at the University of California, Davis, where she teaches courses in dispute resolution, negotiation, and legal psychology. Her research examines litigant decision-making, procedural justice, and the implementation of online dispute resolution (ODR) systems within legal contexts.
Professor Shestowsky employs empirical methods to investigate how disputants evaluate and choose among legal procedures, the psychology of procedural preference, and factors influencing satisfaction with dispute resolution outcomes. Her work bridges law and psychology to improve the design and implementation of legal processes.
Current research focuses on the adoption of online dispute resolution in court systems, attorney-client communication about procedural options, and evidentiary assessments in family court cases. She has conducted field studies evaluating ODR implementations in county court systems and examined how litigants' pre-procedure expectations impact their post-resolution satisfaction. Her research informs court administrators, policymakers, and legal practitioners about optimizing dispute resolution processes.
