Emma van Gelder is an Assistant Professor at the Molengraaff Institute for Private Law, Utrecht University School of Law, Economics and Governance. She obtained her PhD from Erasmus University Rotterdam (2022) and both Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Legal Research (cum laude) from Utrecht University. Currently, she serves as a researcher at the Montaigne Centre for the Rule of Law and the Administration of Justice.

Research Interests focus on procedural law and alternative dispute resolution mechanisms, particularly Online Dispute Resolution (ODR) and Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) within digital societies. Her work examines how these systems affect access to justice for consumers, analyzing financial barriers, procedural fairness, and platform governance.
Recent Publications explore ODR implementation across Europe, EU ODR platform effectiveness, and PayPal's Resolution Centre quality standards. She investigates mediation's role in reducing legal costs and improving consumer rights enforcement.
