Donna Hewitt is an Associate Professor in Music, Music Technology, and Creative Practice at the University of New England's School of Humanities, Arts, and Social Sciences. She is Head of the Department of Creative Arts and Communication. Her work bridges electronic music performance, instrument design, and interdisciplinary art, notably inventing the eMic sensor-enhanced microphone stand and wearable electronics for performance control. Hewitt holds a PhD from the University of Western Sydney (2007) and a B.A. (Hons) in Music (1997) and B.Sc. (1993).

Her research explores mediatized performance environments, vocal-electronic interfaces, and collaborative projects like the RISE initiative (SSHRC-funded 2020–2025) and the audio-visual group Macrophonics. Key works include Ghost Ships (wearable tech for lighting/sound control), #MeToo series (social commentary performances), and the eMic.
