Dominique Allen is an Associate Professor in the Department of Business Law & Taxation at Monash Business School, Monash University. She holds the position of Director of Research in her department and previously served as Secretary of the Australian Labour Law Association (2016–2023). Her research focuses on anti-discrimination law, equality, and employment law, utilizing doctrinal, comparative, and empirical methodologies. Allen has received prestigious awards, including the Dean’s Award for Equity, Diversity, and Social Inclusion Research Excellence (2022) and the Dean’s Commendation for Excellence in Research Engagement and Impact (2023). She leads or collaborates on major projects funded by organizations like the Australian Research Council and the Victorian Women’s Benevolent Trust, addressing topics such as mechanisms for resolving human rights complaints, women’s experiences with anti-discrimination laws, and the impact of pregnancy discrimination.
Allen’s educational background includes a PhD from Melbourne Law School and an Honours degree in law from the Australian National University. She has held academic roles at Deakin Law School (2010–2016) and practiced as a solicitor in the ACT. Her publications span law journals globally, with a focus on anti-discrimination law, sexual harassment, and human rights. She co-authored the textbook Australian Anti-Discrimination and Equal Opportunity Law (3rd ed., 2018). Allen also contributes to law reform inquiries and sits on advisory boards for the Anti-Discrimination Law Review and the Berkeley Center on Comparative Equality and Anti-Discrimination Law. She actively supervises HDR students in areas such as workplace equality, disability discrimination, and anti-discrimination law enforcement.
Her research projects include evaluating innovative mechanisms in Victoria’s Equal Opportunity Act 2010 and assessing ADR practices in resolving discrimination claims. Allen’s work aligns with UN Sustainable Development Goals, particularly those addressing gender equality and reduced inequalities. Recent activities include organizing workshops on transparency for equality and presenting at national and international conferences on discrimination law and policy.
