Dr. Derrick Fox is the Associate Dean of Graduate Studies and Creative Endeavors and a Professor of Choral Conducting at Michigan State University. Previously, he served as Director of Choral Activities and Distinguished Professor of Music at the University of Nebraska-Omaha and Assistant Professor of Choral Music at Ithaca College.
- Teaching Experience: Middle school, high school, and collegiate levels
- International Conducting Residencies: Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia, Brazil, and South Africa
His research focuses on choral pedagogy, including assessment strategies, classroom community development, and shape note singing traditions in African American communities. He has led national ACDA honor choirs and conducted workshops across 30+ U.S. states.
Dr. Fox’s awards recognize his service to music education and research excellence. He launched The Derrick Fox Choral Series to amplify marginalized voices in music and co-created the Unified Voices for Music Education Initiative with the Country Music Association Foundation.
