Dermot O'Hare

Professor Dermot O'Hare is a faculty member at the University of Oxford, affiliated with the Department of Chemistry. He serves as Director of the SCG-Oxford Centre of Excellence for Chemistry (CoE), a collaborative initiative with SCG Chemicals Co. Ltd focusing on nanomaterials and catalysis research.

His research addresses global challenges in energy, zero carbon, and circular economy through multidisciplinary work in catalysis, nanomaterials, and inorganic chemistry. His team (34 members) explores molecular-based magnetic materials and advanced characterisation of inorganic compounds.

Key awards include the Royal Commission of 1851 Research Fellowship, Exxon European Chemical and Engineering Prize, and the Royal Society of Chemistry Tilden Award. He received the Oxford Impact Award for creating the SCG-Oxford Centre of Excellence.

The CoE, established in 2012, has generated £19 million in funding across 49 projects and strengthened UK-Thailand scientific ties. In 2016, Professor O'Hare and SCG presented their work to HRH Princess Sirindhorn at the British Embassy in Bangkok.
