Dermot O’Hare is a Professor at the University of Oxford and Director of the SCG-Oxford Centre of Excellence for Chemistry (CoE). He studied at Balliol College, Oxford, earning a BSc (1982) and DPhil (1985) under Professor M.L.H. Green. His career includes a Royal Commission of 1851 Research Fellowship, a visiting fellowship at DuPont, and a Septcentenary Tutorial Fellowship at Balliol College.

Professor O’Hare leads a multi-disciplinary team of 34 researchers focusing on catalysis and nanomaterials to address global challenges in energy, zero carbon, and the circular economy. The SCG-Oxford CoE, established in 2012, has executed 49 projects with £19 million in funding, fostering UK-Thailand scientific and commercial ties.
Notable awards include the Royal Society of Chemistry’s Ludwig Mond Award (2010), RSC Tilden Prize (2016), and the Royal Society of Chemistry Academia-Industry Prize (2019) for the CoE. He was honored by the Institut de France in 1996 and received the Exxon European Chemical and Engineering Prize.
