Stephen Liddle is a Professor & Head of Inorganic Chemistry at The University of Manchester, co-Director of the Centre for Radiochemistry Research, and Director of the National Nuclear User Facility. He holds roles such as ERES President-Elect and Fellowships from the Royal Society of Chemistry and Royal Society of Edinburgh. His research focuses on f-block elements, including uranium-ligand multiple bonding, single molecule magnets, and small molecule activation.
Education: BSc (Hons) and PhD from Newcastle University (1997-2000). Postdoctoral fellowships at Edinburgh, Nottingham, and others. Career highlights include ERC grants, EPSRC Fellowships, and over 250 publications.
Research Interests: Coordination/organometallic chemistry of lanthanides and actinides, uranium-ligand bonding, magnetic materials, and catalytic conversions. His work bridges synthetic, spectroscopic, and computational approaches to understand electronic structures.
Awards: GDCh/RSC Alexander Todd Prize (2023), RSC Tilden Prize (2020), Humboldt Bessel Award (2019), and others.
Teaching: Leads Inorganic Chemistry courses and supervises MChem projects. Collaborates internationally via networks like COST Action CM1006 (2011-2015).
Equipment: Manages advanced facilities including NMR spectrometers, gamma spectrometers, and liquid scintillation counters.
