Dennis Olsen is an Associate Professor (Reader) of Advertising and Branding at the University of West London's London School of Film, Media and Design. He serves as the KEF Lead for the school and maintains an active research profile in consumer cultures and promotional communications.
His educational background includes prior experience as a strategic planner in a multinational communications and advertising agency, and as a lecturer in advertising psychology at universities in Germany and Austria. His interdisciplinary work in branded communications integrates sociological, cultural and psychological perspectives to address challenges in today's globalized advertising landscape.
Olsen's research focuses on consumer cultures, EDI campaigns, stereotype research (particularly regarding ageing societies), and shifting consumer behaviors. His publications reveal a consistent focus on age representation in media, advertising's role in society, and the intersection of branding with social issues. The majority of his recent work examines how older adults are portrayed in advertising and media, with particular attention to British contexts.
