Denise Djokic is an Instructor in Cello at the University of Illinois, School of Music, Department of Music. She holds a Visiting Professor role at the University of Ottawa and has served on faculties of the National Youth Orchestra of Canada, Killington Music Festival, and Bowdoin International Music Festival. Her musical expertise spans cello performance, chamber music, and contemporary works.
Education includes studies at the Cleveland Institute of Music (Young Artist Program under Richard Aaron) and New England Conservatory (Undergraduate Diploma with Laurence Lesser and Paul Katz).
Research interests focus on classical and contemporary cello performance, pedagogy, and advocacy for classical music. Her acclaimed recordings include albums for SONY Classical, ATMA, and Allegro/Endeavor, earning awards like the 2002 East Coast Music Award and Billboard recognition.
Awards include Maclean’s Magazine’s “25 Canadians Changing the World” and Elle’s “Most Powerful Women.” She has performed globally with orchestras such as the Edmonton Symphony, Philharmonic Orchestra of the Americas, and Symphony Nova Scotia, alongside collaborations with pianist David Jalbert in recitals and the Piano Plus outreach initiative.
