Denise Bortree

Denise Bortree is Professor and Associate Dean for Academic Affairs at Pennsylvania State University. Her research examines strategic communication practices in corporate social responsibility, nonprofit management, and sustainability contexts.

Bortree's scholarship investigates:

• CSR message design and stakeholder engagement
• Nonprofit communication and volunteer management
• Sustainability reporting and environmental advocacy
• Digital fundraising and social media strategies

Her experimental and content analysis research appears in leading journals including Journal of Public Relations Research, Nonprofit and Voluntary Sector Quarterly, and Environmental Communication. Bortree holds a PhD from the University of Florida and serves as Director of the Arthur W. Page Center for integrity in public communication.
