Dr. Debra K. Meyer serves as a Professor in the Department of Education within the School of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences at Elmhurst University. She earned her BA from Purdue University in education and psychology, followed by teaching experience in 5th/6th-grade teams and developmental 2nd grade classrooms in Mesa, Arizona, before completing her PhD in educational psychology at the University of Texas–Austin.
Dr. Meyer's scholarly work examines the intricate relationships between motivation and emotion in classroom contexts and investigates how educators develop into effective teacher leaders. With over 50 publications to her name, she has presented research at numerous national and international conferences. Her 2023 book, Classroom Research Partnerships, co-authored with Julianne Turner and Nancy Perry, provides a comprehensive framework for conducting research in school communities, and she is currently developing Classroom Assessment for New Teachers under contract with Kendall Hunt.
As an influential figure in educational psychology, Dr. Meyer serves as co-chair on the Publications Committee for the American Psychological Association's Division 15 and has contributed to the editorial boards of leading journals including the American Education Research Journal, Journal of Educational Psychology, Journal of Experimental Education, and Theory into Practice.
