Deborah Goodman is a Sessional Lecturer and Assistant Professor (Status Only) at the Factor-Inwentash Faculty of Social Work, University of Toronto. She serves as Director of the Child Welfare Institute (CWI) at the Children’s Aid Society of Toronto, where she leads large-scale training and evaluation initiatives for human service professionals.
Her research interests are centered on improving child welfare practice through evidence-informed frameworks, with a strong focus on child and family services, children's mental health, and Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD). She is deeply committed to program evaluation, outcome measurement, and community-academic partnerships to strengthen service delivery for vulnerable children and youth.
Dr. Goodman was awarded a $700,000 multi-province research grant to advance services for youth with FASD in the child welfare system. She has over 30 agency and community-based evaluations to her credit and is a recognized leader in applied social work research.
