Deborah Bell

Deborah Bell is a Lecturer in International Initial Teacher Training (IITT) at the University of Sunderland's School of Education. She holds a PGCE in Post-Compulsory Education and a professional doctorate from the same institution. With over 20 years at the university, she's served in roles including MA Education (DL) and MA International Education (DL) lecturer. Currently, she leads modules for PGCE iQTS (DL) and EPDM95, supervises doctoral students, and serves as Assessment Innovation Champion.

Research Focus: Her work examines support systems for distance learners, academic-staff collaboration through communities of practice, and workplace communication dynamics. Her doctoral research explored collapsing hierarchies between academic and administrative staff via subject-specific communities of practice.

Awards: Collaboratively awarded the Vice Chancellor's Teaching Fellowship for research into student support systems. Teaching Roles: Includes dissertation supervision, MA Education module leadership, and championing assessment innovation.
