Dean Keep is a Lecturer and Course Director of the Bachelor of Screen Production at Swinburne University of Technology, within the School of Social Sciences, Media, Film and Education. He is an award-winning educator with expertise in digital imaging, video production, screenwriting, and digital storytelling across online platforms. His academic and creative work bridges screen production, mobile media, and design history.

Dean Keep’s research spans emergent screen technologies, smartphone filmmaking, and Australian mid-century design history. His creative practice explores how visual media shape understandings of time, place, and cultural memory. He investigates the role of smartphones in tourism, AI in screenwriting, and mobile documentary practices. His work combines technical innovation with deep cultural inquiry, particularly through the lens of mobile and digital media.
His recent publications and creative works reflect a strong trajectory in mobile media and design. Themes include the smartphone as a “digital Wunderkammer,” database documentaries, and the influence of Italian design on Australian modernism. His research outputs include books, book chapters, journal articles, and curated exhibitions, often blending academic rigor with artistic experimentation.

Dean Keep has supervised students in screen and digital media and has consulted on government-funded projects with institutions such as the Council of Adult Education and William Angliss Institute. His creative works have been exhibited internationally, including at the National Film and Sound Archive of Australia. He co-curated one of Australia’s first mobile media exhibitions and the major survey of Clement Meadmore’s design work. He is currently not available for student supervision.
