Dawn Ellams is a Senior Tutor in the School of Design at the Royal College of Art (RCA), where she integrates research and teaching focused on reducing environmental impacts in fashion and textile value chains. Her work bridges academia, industry, NGOs, and government, emphasizing sustainability and circular economy principles.
- Education: PhD in Textile Technology and Circular Design (Heriot-Watt University), MA in Sustainable Design (University of Brighton).
Research interests include innovative coloration techniques for sustainable fabrics, textile waste recycling, and ethical manufacturing processes. She leads projects such as the UKRI Circular Fashion and Textile Network Plus (2023–26) and has contributed to initiatives like Trash-2-Cash (Horizon 2020) and the Future Fashion Factory (FFF).
Awards: Recognized with the 2023 RCA Knowledge Exchange Champion Award for her collaborative work on the Future Fashion Factory. Current projects include Circular Fashion Jewellery value chain analysis (Innovate UK, 2024) and biodegradable material innovations.
