Professor Kate Goldsworthy holds the Chair of Circular Design & Innovation at the University of the Arts London (UAL), based at Chelsea College of Arts. She co-directs the Centre for Circular Design and serves as Deputy Director of the Business of Fashion, Textiles and Technology (BFTT) partnership, funded by the UK Industrial Strategy. Her research focuses on designing for sustainability, circular economy principles, and material innovation in textiles. She has led major projects like Mistra Future Fashion and Trash-2-Cash, exploring textile recycling and circular material systems.
Goldsworthy earned a PhD (2012) from UAL, investigating laser finishing for recyclable textiles. Her educational background includes an MA in Textile Futures (2000) and a BDes in Textile Design (1996) from the University of Dundee. She advises organizations like Worn Again Technologies and contributes to policy groups such as the EPSRC Peer Review College.
Her work bridges practice and theory, emphasizing transdisciplinary collaboration. Recent grants include projects on natural fiber composites for luxury markets and biodegradable PPE materials. Her teaching involves supervising PhD students in areas like circular design methodologies and textile waste solutions.
Key collaborations include the HEREWEAR project (2019–2024), advancing digital fabrication for sustainable materials. Goldsworthy’s exhibitions and commissions span institutions like the V&A and the Museum of Fine Arts Boston.
