David Seidel

David Seidel is a Universitätsprofessor (Professor) of Bassoon at the University of Music and Performing Arts Graz, specifically at the Oberschützen Institute since 2010. He also led a bassoon class at the Graz Wind Instrument Institute until 2023. Previously, he taught chamber music at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna (2009–2014) and bassoon there (2009–2010). He has held visiting professorships at institutions worldwide, including Sibelius Academy Helsinki, Geidai Tokyo, and the University of Southern California.

Education: Studied with Milan Turković, Yoshinori Tominaga, and Richard Galler at the Mozarteum Salzburg, earning a diploma with distinction and a Federal Ministry award. Career: Principal bassoonist with the ORF RSO Vienna (1998–2019), and has performed with orchestras like the Vienna Philharmonic, Berlin Radio Orchestra, and Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia Roma. He is a Yamaha Artist since 2014.

Research/Performance Focus: Bassoon performance, chamber music (founder of Theophil Ensemble, Fagotes Locos, Vienna Bass&oon Quartet), and solo orchestral roles. Recordings include multiple CDs with ensembles and solo works. Active in festivals globally, including Hamamatsu Wind Academy and Moritzburg Festival.

Awards: Federal Ministry Appreciation Award (diploma), Yamaha Artist title. Engagements include masterclasses at institutions like Norges Musikkhøgskole and Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique de Lyon. Leadership: Member of Graz University Senate (2016–2019), and head of the Oberschützen Institute since 2020.
