Martin Gatt is a Bassoon Professor at the Royal College of Music (RCM), where he specializes in woodwind studies. He has held principal bassoon roles with prestigious orchestras, including the London Philharmonic Orchestra (1958–66), English Chamber Orchestra (1966–76), and London Symphony Orchestra (1977–98). Additionally, he was a member of the Barry Tuckwell Wind Quintet (1967–91) and founded the Department of Wind, Brass, and Percussion at the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts. His teaching career includes roles at Guildhall School of Music and Drama (1967–84).

His research interests focus on bassoon performance techniques, chamber music collaboration, and orchestral ensemble practices.
