Sarah Burnett

Sarah Burnett is a Professor of Bassoon at the Royal College of Music (RCM), combining a distinguished performing career with extensive teaching. She serves as Principal Bassoonist of the Britten Sinfonia and London Mozart Players, and frequently guest-performs with major UK orchestras. Her chamber music engagements include the Haffner Wind Ensemble and RPS award-winning Britten Sinfonia Soloists, performing at venues like the Wigmore Hall and international festivals.

Her educational background includes studies at Chetham’s School of Music, Cambridge University, the Royal Academy of Music, and further training with Klaus Thunemann in Hanover. She has held leadership roles in youth orchestras, including Principal Bassoon positions with the National Youth Orchestra of Great Britain and European Union Youth Orchestra.

Besides her RCM professorship, Burnett coaches bassoonists in the National Youth Orchestra and serves as a consultant at the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire. She is sought after globally for masterclasses and pedagogical contributions. Her performances are regularly featured on BBC Radio 3 and film soundtracks.

Key recognitions include the Royal Philharmonic Society (RPS) Award for her work with the Britten Sinfonia Soloists. She actively engages in music outreach through RCM initiatives, fostering young talent and promoting classical music.
