David Scott is an Associate Professor in Political Science Research at Karlstad University, affiliated with the Department of Political, Historical, Religious and Cultural Studies within the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences. He holds an M.A. in Political Science from Karlstad University and previously worked in development aid evaluation and risk/crisis management research.
His research focuses on marketization, managerialization, and projectification as organizational logics shaping governance and political outcomes. Key areas include the impact of project-based formats on Swedish development aid, gender equality work, and the green transition in Northern Sweden. Methodologically, he employs assemblage thinking and power-critical perspectives rooted in post-structuralist theory.
Scott has published widely on topics such as projectification's political effects, gender expertise in international organizations, and the theoretical applications of assemblage thinking. His work is funded by grants like Riksbankens Jubileumsfond and the Swedish Research Council. Teaching responsibilities include courses on political participation, feminist perspectives, and policy analysis.
He leads a research program (2023-2026) examining how municipalities in Northern Sweden use projectification to manage green transitions. No formal student advisees are listed, but his grants support collaborative projects with colleagues like Elisabeth Olivius and Malin Rönnblom.
