Malin Gawell is an Associate Professor at the Department of Social Sciences, Södertörn University, specializing in social entrepreneurship, civil society dynamics, and sustainable development. Her work bridges academic research with practical interventions in urban/suburban contexts and international collaborations, including partnerships with the University of Rwanda. She is affiliated with the REINVENT Center, ENTER forum, and the Center for Studies of Political Organization (CPO), while actively participating in networks like the International Sustainable Development Research Society (ISDRS) and EMES Research Network.
Her research explores how societal challenges are addressed through entrepreneurial initiatives, focusing on gender equity, welfare systems, and participatory development. Key themes include activist entrepreneurship, social enterprise ecosystems, and the interplay between institutional frameworks and grassroots innovations. Funding has come from prestigious bodies like Riksbankens Jubileumsfond, EU Commission, and SIDA.
