Claes Lernestedt is a Visiting Professor of Criminal Law at the Department of Social Sciences, Södertörn University (2025–). He holds a Professor of Criminal Law position at Stockholm University (2015–2025) and has previously served as Associate Professor at Örebro University (2004–2011) and Professor at Uppsala University (2011–2014). He is an Affiliated Researcher at the Institute for Futures Studies (2024–).

Research Interests focus on criminal law theory, particularly tort construction, action and consciousness, self-defense, necessity, consent, and mental disorders. He explores equality and justice in legal systems, especially regarding sexual offenses and crimes against children.
Scientific Awards and Expert Roles include contributions to major legal reforms (e.g., 2010 sentencing reform, 2024 review of anti-stalking legislation) and membership on editorial boards like Criminal Law & Philosophy (2023–). His projects are funded by the Torsten Söderberg Foundation and the Crime Victims' Fund.
