Linnea Wegerstad is an Associate Professor and Senior Lecturer at the Department of Law, Lund University. She is also a researcher in Criminal Law, Health Law, and Law and Vulnerabilities. Her work focuses on criminal law's societal role, sexual offences, sentencing practices, and research ethics. She coordinates the 'Reimagining Police and Public Safety' project at the Pufendorf Institute and has been funded by the Ragnar Söderberg Foundation for her sentencing research. Wegerstad previously served in the Swedish general courts (2015–2018), including roles as a junior judge and law clerk.
Her research explores intersections between criminal law and empirical methods, feminist legal theory, and the #MeToo movement's legal impacts. Key projects include studying Sweden’s rape provision reforms, defamation judgments post-#MeToo, and ethical review processes in child abuse research. She teaches criminal law, criminal procedure, and feminist legal theory, supervising master’s and doctoral theses.
Wegerstad’s projects include 'Understanding Sentencing' (Ragnar Söderberg Foundation), addressing sentencing proportionality and legal sources in judicial decisions, and collaborations on crime policy and police reform. She actively participates in academic conferences, presenting on topics like sexual harassment investigations and judicial responses to #MeToo.
