Linnea Wegerstad serves as Senior Lecturer at Lund University's Department of Law within the Faculty of Law. Her academic profile spans teaching criminal law, criminal procedure, and feminist legal theory while directing significant research projects including the Ragnar Söderberg Foundation-funded study 'Understanding penalty determination – proportionality, uniformity and sources of law in judges’ decision-making' (2024-2027). Previously, she coordinated the Pufendorf Institute's 'Reimagining Police and Public Safety' advanced study group in 2021 and co-led 'The #metoo momentum and its aftermath' research project.
Wegerstad's research expertise centers on criminal law and procedure with particular focus on sexual assault legislation, criminal sanctions, and research ethics. Her work demonstrates strong empirical methodology examining how non-legal knowledge informs legal research. Key contributions include analysis of Sweden's 2018 rape law reform, studies of police-reported sexual harassment cases, and examination of defamation judgments following the #MeToo movement. Her research consistently intersects with UN Sustainable Development Goals related to justice and equality.
Analysis of her 54 publications reveals consistent focus on sexual violence law reform, with increasing attention to sentencing practices and research ethics frameworks since 2022. Her work shows interdisciplinary integration of feminist theory, empirical social science, and legal doctrine, particularly examining how legal systems respond to social movements. Recent publications demonstrate growing international collaboration, especially on comparative sexual offense legislation.
