David Salmons is a Senior Lecturer at Aston Law School, part of the College of Business and Social Sciences at Aston University. He joined Aston in 2010 and holds a PhD in Law from the University of Birmingham (2011). His research focuses on Private Law Classification, Tort Law, Restitution, Trusts, Estoppel, and Jurisprudence. He teaches Law of Torts and Equity & Trusts, serving as module leader for the Torts course.
Salmons earned an LLB (2004) and LLM in Commercial Law (2006) from the University of Birmingham. His doctoral thesis explored legal realism in private law classification. He is co-convenor of the Restitution Section at the Society of Legal Scholars and active in academic networks like the Tort Law Research Group.
His research output includes analyses of restitution principles (e.g., dishonest assistance, rescission), trust law disputes, and legal accountability mechanisms. Notable works address solicitors' liability in trust disputes (2016), contract rescission (2016), and comparative tort liability frameworks (2011). His 2017 articles on third-party trust claims and accessory liability highlight his focus on equitable remedies and legal accountability.
Awarded one of six shortlisted papers for the Society of Legal Scholars' Best Paper Award (2008), Salmons' work bridges theoretical jurisprudence and practical legal issues. He participates in academic conferences and contributes to legal discourse through peer-reviewed journals.
