David Roxburgh

Dr. David Roxburgh is a Senior Lecturer and Deputy Head of the Strathclyde Institute of Education (SIoE) at the University of Strathclyde, focusing on Innovation and Impact until 2027. He holds the SFHEA designation and has held roles such as Director of Global Engagement (2020–2024) and Deputy Director of the Strathclyde China Institute. He is a Chief Examiner for Primary Education at the University of Birmingham and serves on the University Senate.
Education: PhD (University of Strathclyde, 2021), MSc (2006), BEd (1995), all from the University of Strathclyde.
Research interests include pedagogies for teaching Chinese language and culture, third-language acquisition, STEM education in teacher training, and international comparative education systems. He collaborates with institutions like the Confucius Institute for Scotland’s Schools and SCILT (National Centre for Languages). His work addresses multilingualism, cultural identity, and global partnerships.
Awards include the 2019 Strathclyde Team Medal for Knowledge Exchange with Chinese partners and the 2020 Faculty Award for Outstanding Student Experience. He has secured grants for STEM curriculum development and international student mobility programs.
Leadership roles include coordinating STEM-with-teaching degrees and managing international exchange programs. He currently leads the SIoE’s strategic internationalization plan and collaborates with the University of Calgary on cross-border educational initiatives.
