Associate Professor David M. Pritchard holds the position of Associate Professor of Greek History at the University of Queensland’s School of Historical and Philosophical Inquiry, where he previously chaired the Classics and Ancient History department. He has held 15 international research fellowships across Australia, Denmark, France, the Netherlands, the UK, and the USA. Currently leading a major Australian Research Council-funded project, his scholarship focuses on Athenian democracy’s intersection with war, public finance, and cultural practices. Notable publications include Athenian Democracy at War (2019), Sport, Democracy and War in Classical Athens (2013), and Public Spending and Democracy in Classical Athens (2015). His research explores themes such as funeral orations, naval warfare, and the socio-political dynamics of ancient Athens. Pritchard has published over 65 journal articles, achieved an h-index of 19, and secured $2 million AUD in research funding. He frequently engages with public discourse through international media, including op-eds in Le Monde, Kathimerini, and The Conversation. He earned his PhD in Ancient History from Macquarie University in 1999.
