David Long

Dr. David Long is an Assistant Professor in Solar Physics at Dublin City University's School of Physical Sciences. He holds a PhD from Trinity College Dublin and has held roles at University College London (UCL), Queens University Belfast, and served as UK Principal Investigator for the ESA/NASA Solar Orbiter mission's Extreme Ultraviolet Imager (EUI).

Education:

• PhD, Trinity College Dublin

Research Focus: Solar eruptive events' initiation/evolution using multi-wavelength observations (optical, UV, X-ray, radio) and solar atmosphere elemental abundance studies via EUV spectral diagnostics. His work addresses space weather phenomena critical for understanding solar activity impacts.

• STFC Ernest Rutherford Fellow

Professional Experience: Transitioned from Postdoctoral Research Associate (UCL 2019) to Lecturer in Solar Physics there. Led international space mission roles before joining DCU in 2024.
